Andrew was raised in Manchester in England and carried out his undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge. He did his graduate work at the University of Manchester in Stephen Taylor’s lab. While there, he studied the regulation of a protease that is responsible for dissolving the “glue” that holds the replicated sister chromatids together during mitosis.

Andrew was a postdoctoral fellow in Don Cleveland’s lab at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the University of California San Diego. He studied the regulation of a motor protein involved in coordinating chromosome movement during mitosis and how cells maintain the correct copy number control of the centrosome, a microtubule-organizing center. Andrew started his lab at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2013.
